All about Brow Products!

Who loves a good brow? If you don't, you should. A good brow will frame your face and eyes. I, for one, can never skip out on the brows. In a perfect world, i'd have my brows arched and carved and just glammed to the max all the time. Realistically, aint nobody got time for that.

Today i'll be showing you some of my favorite brow products, ranging from natural to glam finishes and also in different price ranges. I'll also be sharing some of my favorite brow tools.

Let's talk products. Here are some swatches of the products that I own.

  • Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Black Brown. This is a nice pencil. The brush on the cap is completely useless though. The only thing about it is that it can be hard to get a precise line since it is a traditional pencil you have to sharpen. For the price of $3.99 its a good pencil.
  • e.l.f. Studio Eyebrow Kit in Medium. As you can see, i only have a swatch for the gel. That is because the powder completely shattered. When you dip into the powder, you get a lot of fallout because it is a soft powder which is why it broke so easily. I did not like this product at all. The gel is not very pigmented and the powder was so warm! It was straight up a warm tan color, reminiscent of a warm bronzer. I would never put that on my brows. The gel alone wears off easily. For the price of $3, i'd rather spend that on a different product.
  • Maybelline Eyestudio Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara in Deep Brown. I don't have crazy eyebrows hairs that like to move around, so I can't speak too much on the holding power of this brow mascara. I like to use it as a finishing touch after I've filled in my brows to give the individual eyebrow hairs definition; however this is not a product that I would use by itself. The brush is awkward. One interesting thing that I noticed was that after i did these swatches on my leg, I put pants on and went about my day. At the end of the day, the swatch of this product looks the exact same: no fading and no budging. I'm impressed with the staying power!
  • Bodyography Essential Brow Trio. This is a product that I don't find myself using. I prefer cooler brows and I feel that the lighter brown is a bit warmer than i'd like. What is cool about this it that it comes with three colors so you could mix them to get your perfect color. So i could use the ashy light color to get the perfect shade, but its a bit more effort than I would like. Do I think that nifty feature of mixing is worth the $19? For me, no.
  • Bh Cosmetics Flawless Brow Trio in Medium. This has to be my favorite product out of the bunch. It comes with a gel, and two powders. This kit has everything you would need to get either a dramatic brow or a natural one. This is what I reach for on a daily basis. The original price is $7 but Bh Cosmetics always has amazing sales. As of right now, it is on sale for $5. The powders are so pigmented and blendable. They have good staying powder. I would repurchase this everytime.
  • Nyx Eyebrow Cake Powder  in Taupe/Ash. I think this is a good product. I like to keep it in my purse for brows on the go since it comes with a brush and spoolie. This has what I need to get my brows together in a pinch. However, I would still reach for my Bh Cosmetics kit over this. The retail price for this Nyx product is $6 and you don't get as much product as the Bh one. The colors between the Bh kit and this one are pretty identical but as you can see from swatches, the Bh kit is more pigmented. Not a bad product for being at the drugstore, but knowing that the Bh kit exists for around the same price, I would not be able to settle for this Nyx one.
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate. Ahh, the infamous Dipbrow. I'm sure we all know about this product. In it's time, it was the king of all brow products. Luckily now we have a bunch of drugstore alternatives. There are an increasing number of pomades on the market now (Nyx and Ardell to name a few). I don't mean to sell this product short. It is amazing. The tiniest bit goes a long way and when done right, it can give you a soft brow or a dramatic one. It has great lasting power. Since you need such a bit, this pot will last you a long time. I personally would not repurchase just because I would like to try the other pomades at the lower price points first and see if they can compare.
  • Nyx Eyebrow Gel in Espresso. This is another product that a little goes a long way. It is comparable to the Dipbrow in it's staying power. For the price, of $7, I think it is so worth it. It will last for such a long time. If you want your brows to me budge-proof, I would recommend this, and for the price, yes please.
In this picture to the left, I have a side by side comparison of both the Abh Dipbrow and the Nyx Eyebrow gel. The picture on the right is both products freshly applied and the left is after rubbing vigorously. As you can tell from the second picture, they both lasted really well. If you notice, my skin in even a bit red from how hard I rubbed. The Nyx did come off a bit more than the Dipbrow but for the price gap of $7 to $18 I am not even mad.

One product that I did not mention is something to clean up/carve your brows. There are plenty of products on the market for this purpose but the one I personally use is just foundation! I have an old empty pot that used to have gel eyeliner. I cleaned that out and just put some foundation. I then just dip my brush into the pot, tap the brush on the cap to remove any excess and then go to town on these brows. This is a great thing to do with some foundations you might have that you don't like too much or are the wrong color for you (preferably too light for a highlighted effect). Since it's foundation, you should have no problem blending it out. It cool because you don't have to purchase a specific product for that purpose, you can just use something that you might already have!

Shall we talk about brow tools now?
  • First things first, you must have a spoolie! It works to comb out the brows, but also to blend and take off any excess product.
  • Next an angled brush. Some of my faves are:
    • Sonia Kashuk No. 108 This is my favorite for powders. Since it's natural hair, it blends so nicely. This brush is on the thicker side so I can do my brows so quickly with this brush.
    • Zoeva 322 Brow Line I love this brush for gel products. It is short, dense, and thin. Ever since I got this brush, I have fallen in love again with my Abh Dipbrow. Before this brush, I used to struggle a lot with that product. I was picking up too much and my brows just looked harsh and dramatic. However, this brush is just amazing and does all the work for me. It also has a very unique shape. All in all, amazing brush.
    • Bodyography Brow Brush. This is a nice brush. It is thin and dense and the spoolie is very nice too. I don't prefer it over my other brushes and it is $19. If you wanted a double ended brush like this, e.l.f. has one and also Ardell both of which are very affordable ($5 and below).
  • A concealer brush. This one pictured (the yellow bristled one) has no name. Basically any flat concealer brush will work. This is useful for cleaning up under the brows. I love this one because its angled whereas my other concealer brushes are rounded. Just find one that works for you.

So that is basically it for this brow products and tools roundup. If you have any questions about anything mentioned, drop them below. I hope that your brows will always be fierce!
<3 Yvonne
